Family Room Recordings was founded by Scott Ferguson from Iowa USA, with the support of his wife Amy, and close friend Darren Winsor. As 80’s kids we all grew up surrounded by electronic music whether we realized it or not at the time, and the electronic music scene of the 80’s was busy laying the foundation for modern house and techno music to take shape in the 90’s. Scott has always been obsessed with electronic music and its culture, and found House Music in high school. Darren and Scott met through mutual friends just hanging out spinning records. Because of that, we always knew the value of records is much greater than merely the vinyl they are made from, or the music pressed on them. Collecting and playing records can bring people together. The experience can range from simply listening to a record for enjoyment after a long day, to rigorously practicing specific mixing techniques and tricks for hours on end. Like most vinyl enthusiasts, we always wanted to make a record of our own, and even came pretty close at least once in the past. The time finally came, in March of 2017, when Family Room Recordings, LLC. was formed and we released FRR-001 Colt James’ Static Technician EP. We are proud to say that since then we’ve released another 4. Most Recently in 2026 FRR-005 Jordan Fields – Sequences and Simulations. We have also become the only studio that can cut custom records in Iowa. Record collecting is still on the rise, and we just hope that soon the practice of mixing records makes the same type of comeback.
